GameFriends Start Guide
Getting started on GameFriends is very easy. Each set of steps below are to
help YOU become a more productive member of the community. You do not
necessarily have to complete all the steps below but this guide is extremely
thorough and will help you tremendously in your knowledge of GameFriends.
Grab a snack first!
1) Click "signup button" to sign up. Enter your information and a valid
email address. Upload an avatar or select from the ones we provide.
2) Step 3 of the sign up
process relates to how you can make real life money by being active on
GameFriends. We share up to 100% Revenue by using Google Adsense. You can
read more about how this works here:
Making Money on
GameFriends!
3) Once logged in you will be prompted to fill out your About Me
Information (notice the popup link in the lower right corner of your screen). Do
it now to the best of your ability.
You will notice you receive Experience Points for doing this; these points are
more valuable then you realize...more on that later.
4) Go to your email account that you used to sign up with and Verify Your
Account. This will enable full features on GameFriends so you can send
messages, ask questions, post shouts, and much more.
Now your account is verified and your About Me Information is added. Let's
continue...
5) Notice at the top left of the page you will see the GameFriends
logo. Within this logo you will see your "User CP" (User Control Panel)
Click the down
arrow here and you will have the entire site at your fingertips.
Once your User CP dropdown appears,
click on your 'Gamer Control Center' which is circled in red below

User CP makes managing
GameFriends extremely easy no matter where you are on the site. It even
blinks red to alert you of things such as friend requests, new mail, and new
comments. You'll also notice just to the left of your User CP you can quickly
access your private messages sent to you by the members of GameFriends.
You are getting the hang of things!
Great, but other gamers want to know more about your gamer side. Follow these
steps:
1) From the Gamer Control Center Page click on
(here you can add games you have played in the past, present, or plan on playing
in the future)
2) Or from your own Profile page you can click
located at the bottom of the Game history box.
3) After this you will be presented with the Gaming Panel. This dynamic
interface will allow you to quickly add, edit, delete games, characters and track
games or platforms you are interested in.
But for right now
lets concentrate on simply adding a game to your history. Type the game name and
click the button for 'Add Game'
The next screen
will allow you to rate, comment, and post information related to how you played
this game.
Example: I played EverQuest on the Rathe server from 1999 - 2001 with the
Character Nubby, a level 54 Rogue, so I would enter the following
Game played: EverQuest
Comment: My first 3d game. 3d PvP and raiding was so awesome..take turnip,
forest loops, and that time Scott became a GM haha.
Rating: 10 stars
Server: The Rathe
Time Played: 1999 - 2001
Guild Name: Vengeance of Lost Souls
Guild URL: http://vengeanceoflostsouls.com
4) Add the Character Profile
*NOTE* You can either add a Character Profile now for the game (if supported),
or finish this part and add it after you click submit; it does NOT matter.
5) Fill out the information about your Character and click Submit
Example: My Character's Name is Nubby, I made him in the summer of 1999 so I
approximated his creation date. All the other information is already gathered
from the game history. Nubby is inactive since I stopped playing in 2001.
Alignment is None. Enter Headline. Fill out the rest of the information. This
part really brings back a lot of nostalgia and its best to go in-depth as much
as possible to preserve your Character's history.
Here is the link to my Character Profile of Nubby:
Nubby's Profile
Now we have our Real Life Profile and a Character Profile setup. Let's delve
deeper in a couple more easy steps.
1) Click your
dropdown and click on the link for
Gamer Control Center.
2) On the Gamer Control Center Page Click your Real Life Profile image in
the side scrolling selector.
This will take you to your Real Life Profile Page.
GameFriends offers the ability to make edits directly as you view the page.
As you view your
own profile you will notice that under each box or widget you will see an edit
button which looks like this:

3) Go to box labeled "Aliases/Handles" and click the
button underneath it
Add all your Aliases/Handles that you have. You can adjust
the privacy settings for each one by making them viewable by anyone, friends
only, or private just for you so no need to
worry.
Awesome! You are now becoming a bigger part of the community, but let's not
stop here.
1) Click on
and from the dropdown and click on the link for
Create a
Blog.
Creating and updating a Blog is easier than you thought. All
that is needed is your great game knowledge, an opinion, and a keyboard!
2) Enter the Title of your Blog
Example: Jenna's view on Gaming, or Bob's Journey through
World of Warcraft
3) Post an entry. Since this is your first one, maybe introduce yourself
to the community and what you hope to bring. Feel free to associate your entry
with a game if it is appropriate to do so.
Note. You have nothing to prove :) You can simply say: Hi,
this is my Blog and I'm going to write whatever I feel like it, and update it as
regularly or irregularly as I want.
No worries!
You now have a direct connection with the community. Congratulations! Along
with your Real Life Profile, Game History, Character Profile, Aliases/Handles,
and your newly created Blog, the community is getting to know more about you and
your virtual personas. But we still aren't done!
We need to let the community know we are alive before we
continue.
1) Go to
and click on Gamer
Control Center.
2) Once on this page scroll down to box marked Global Shouts
3) Use the dropdown menu to select which profile you want to shout to the
world as, and what you want to say.
Example: Matt says, "Hi all, I'm new here Add
me as a friend!"
To gain more credibility and add a personal touch to your profiles we need to
add some pictures!
1) Go to
and click the link for
Upload Pictures.
You can upload any and all pictures from your computer,
whether it is related to Real Life, Characters, Video Games, Art, etc.
2) Click browse and locate the picture you want to upload from your
computer.
3) Select Album; either Real life or one of the Character Profiles you
have created. You can also add new albums related to whatever you want. For
example I created an album called
'Artwork' where I show off my drawings.
4) Enter a Title/Caption for the Image
Example: Me laying on the couch. Myself and my family.
Nubby owning noobs in EverQuest
5) Enter Tags
Tags help people find your picture. Example: laying on
couch, family, PvP EverQuest
*Note* If you want to verify your Identification you need to write down your
display name and hold it up in a clear photograph of yourself.
You will instantly gain 5,000 Experience Points and more credibility within
the community. This is not required if you do not want to participate but it is
appreciated.
Example:
Here's a picture of someone successfully verifying their identification.

The following are ways you can currently make money on
GameFriends: YOUR: Profile Ads, Real life and Character profiles, Blog, Best
Answers, Videos, Pictures, News, Guides, and Reviews.
Becoming an author/critic/reviewer is much easier with GameFriends. For
example, if you played the game EverQuest you can give it a thorough review, or
perhaps you have a great power leveling guide, or breaking news for the game you
found on another site. You can explore submitting News, Guides, Reviews or
creating your own content later, but let's just LEVEL something for now.
Before you start you need to know
that throughout the site you will see a little man we like to call 'Newbie' who
looks like this:

Newbie will help you decide if content such as News, Guides, Reviews, Pictures,
Videos, Answers, and Blogs are any good. This is done by either Leveling Up or
PKing(Player Killing) him. As you do this his level with either increase or
decrease depending on how you voted. Lets begin...
1) Click on
News/Guides/Reviews link on located on the blue navigation menu across the
top header.
2) View the different submissions; open one that you want to read. No
need to be picky just yet ;)
3) Level this article! You Level Up Newbie
by
pressing the UP Arrow
.
Be sure you have your volume up....DING!
...that's
right, soak it in. No one likes a hater, but
if an article is a duplicate or a
COMPLETE waste of time then by all means PLAYER KILL IT! (PK IT!) by voting down
which
results in
.
