So after like 7 months of Darkfall my brother and girlfriend
(and Brewfest) got me back to World of Warcraft. I'm mainly playing
on Dragonmaw as Horde (orc/DK named Genk), but it's digusting how
carebear the whole thing is. Darkfall was full pvp, full loot, with
little to no pve but everyone was grinding skills for the most
part, aside from those who had them.
WoW is... not much different. That is, there's a whole game in
there but everyone's just grinding. Grinding rep, badges, honor,
etc. I hate raiding, dailies are a chore I'm putting up with, and
BGs... well, we'll start there.
There's a load of achievements for BGs and arenas. Unlike with
raids, these will most likely only be achieved via pugs since it
seems no one wants to form a premade group. There's no such thing
as a pvp guild from my experience. When I tried looking for one, I
was mainly trolled. both in game and in various forums.
The thing about WoW is that it's, in a sense, an anti-social
game. I'd argue it isn't the only one, but raiding is a big part of
this. People are mainly in guilds for the loot. They may not
exactly like each other, or really have friends outside their RL
ones, but they join for gear. If you do have friends and want to
get things done, you have to make sure you don't do certain
activities, such as heroics or raids, without your friends, because
if you do it with a pug while waiting for them to log on, you won't
be able to play with them later (alts aside). If you and your
friend don't mind doing that seperate, then scenario 2 is that you
do your own things, get saved, and when your friend is on, they'll
go off on their own to do the same thing you did! Without a high
amount of coordination, the only time you may play with your
friends is during a scheduled weekly raid, where you probably play
with around 20 people you may not even like for a chance at getting
purples and possibley drama.
Which is why I prefer the pvp. You aren't as restricted,
